Novel about Dagestan enters final of "Russian Booker" contest

Today, in Moscow, the jury of the literary prize "Russian Booker" has announced the short list of the finalists for the 2015 award for best novel in Russian, which included the Alisa Ganieva's book on modern Dagestan "Bride and Groom".

The novel "Bride and Groom" was released by the publishing house "AST-Moscow" in the spring of 2015. 2000 copies were published. This is the third major work created by Alisa Ganieva after her novels "Salam, Dalgat" ("Debut" Prize) and "Holiday Mountain". All three works were based on Dagestani materials.

The plot of the novel echoes the real events of recent years, such as, for example, the criminal case against Said Amirov, the former Mayor of Makhachkala, or prosecution of physician Marat Gunashev.

In 2015, 78 works was nominated for the contest of the "Russian Booker" Prize. Of them, 73 works were admitted to the contest. Six novels entered the final, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Since 1992, the "Russian Booker" Prize is awarded annually to the author of the best novel in Russian. The winner of the 2015 contest will be announced on December 3. The winner will receive the prize money in the amount of 1.5 million roubles, while each finalist will be given 150,000 roubles.
