Abkhazia denies reports on anthrax in republic

"No anthrax case has been registered in Abkhazia, including the Gali district bordering on Georgia," said head of the Abkhazian State Veterinary Service Chinchor Shamba commenting on reports by the Georgian media.

The Georgian media spread information today that several anthrax cases had been registered in the Zugdidi district of Georgia and that the infected beef had been delivered from the neighboring Gali district. According to the Georgian side, "Abkhazians did not allowed in medics from Georgia who was going to vaccinate cattle in the neighboring Gali district and did not agree to take medical preparations." Mr Shamba denied this report too saying that "there have been no interaction and offer to vaccinate from the Georgian side, and the Abkhazian side has not taken any medical preparations."
