Deputy Chairman of PFPA arrested for three months
The court has pronounced against Fuad Gakhramanly, Deputy Chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of a three-month arrest. Fuad Gakhramanly rejects all accusations. His defence intends to appeal against the court's decision.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 8, Fuad Gakhramanly, Deputy Chairman of the PFPA, was detained at his home and brought to the Investigating Department on Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Office. Late in the evening, he appeared in court for pronouncement of a pre-trial restriction measure.
Close to midnight, the Nasimi District Court chaired by Judge Shalala Gasanova pronounced the decision to arrest Fuad Gakhramanly for three months, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Fakhraddin Mekhtiev, an advocate of Fuad Gakhramanly.
"Fuad Gakhramanly is accused of 'public appeals directed against the state' and 'incitement of religious hatred'. An official from the Prosecutor's Office has stated that Fuad Gakhramanly posted the above calls on his Facebook page in connection with the events in the village of Nardaran. Fuad Gakhramanly has denied the accusations and said that he had only expressed his attitude to the events in Nardaran," advocate Fakhraddin Mekhtiev has said.
The defence is preparing to file an appeal against the arrest.
