Two unknown people attacked Eynulla Fatullayev, a reporter for the Monitor weekly yesterday, July 26. As Mr Fatullayev told the Caucasian Knot correspondent, they delivered a blow on his head with a blunt took when he was in the street not far from the building of the Interior Ministry, which is in the center of the city. A taxi driver recognized the reporter and immediately took him to hospital, where doctors stitched up the wound. Now Mr Fatullayev's general condition is satisfactory.
Eynulla Fatullayev is a well-known Azerbaijan journalist, who criticizes authorities, including the country's higher officials. It is worth noting that this attack is already the second impudent attack against opposition journalists for the last week.
