Fit of violence apprehended in North Osetia

The spread of anti-Ingush sentiments in the Prigorodny district of North Osetia gives concern in Ingushetia, and a new fit of violence against ethnic Ingushetians living there is apprehended. Such suppositions are caused by several incidents that occurred both in the Prigorodny district itself and on the border with Ingushetia. For instance, in the village of Oktyabrskoye in the Prigorodny district, a group of young men, armed with reinforcement bars and spades, made an attempt to organize a pogrom in the village of Kartsa, populated mainly by the Ingush population. Due to the opportune interference of law enforcers mass riots were prevented. But there is still tension in the region.

Under the decision of Osetian authorities, virtually all hospital patients of Ingush nationality are discharged from North Osetian patient care institutions "with the purpose of providing their personal safety", a source in the Ingush Committee for Refugees and IDPs (internally displaced persons) told the Caucasian Knot correspondent. Ingush students studying in the institutions of higher education in Vladikavkaz are excused from lessons with the same purpose.
