UN considers presidential election in Abkhazia illegitimate
Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Georgia Heidi Tagliavini does not consider the presidential election in Abkhazia set for October 3 legitimate. In her words, the Abkhazian authorities were illegal before the election and will still be after it. "We don't recognize this election and therefore our observers won't be in Abkhazia. Any pressure on the Georgian population on the part of the Abkhazian authorities will by rated by the Unite Nations as a criminal violation," Ms Tagliavini said. At the same time she hopes the situation in the region will be stable during the election in Abkhazia.
