Forum of Intellectuals protests against bringing Armenian soldiers in Iraq
Armenian intellectuals will rouse the entire nation and will not allow bringing Armenian soldiers in Iraq," reads the statement the Forum of Intellectuals addressed to the Arabian people and Arabian states on October 22. "A surge of dislike for the Armenians can develop in the Moslem world because Arabs take the sending of even one soldier to Iraq as the declaration of war. We've compromised ourselves in the opinion of the Arabian world," Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia Rafael Kazarian stated. By this step, president Kocharian betrays Armenia's national interests and jeopardizes the Armenians all over the world, he noted. According to Gevorg Yazychan, a historian from Syria, real panic has started in Armenian settlements in Arabian countries today. Armenians in Iraq are transferring their children from Armenian schools to other Christian schools apprehending acts of retribution.
