Picketers detained in Baku
Using their constitutional right to freedom of assembly, members of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP - "reformers") made an attempt to hold a picket at the city administration today, APFP chairman Ali Kerimli told the Caucasian Knot correspondent. But the picketers were not able to hold the action since police cruelly beaten them. Several people received serious bodily injuries as a result, and more than 30 participants, including first deputy chairman of the party Gasan Kerimov, were detained.
"The country's authorities violated the Law on Freedom of Assembly one more time and showed their antidemocratic essence. The APFP will continue to struggle for citizens' constitutional rights, in spite of the arbitrariness of the Azerbaijan authorities," Mr Kerimli said.
