Azerbaijan 'did not plan to remove OSCE monitoring group from Karabakh peace process'

In his interview with the Caucasian Knot correspondent, Novruz Mamedov, head of the foreign relations department in the Azerbaijan presidential administration, commented on the recent decision by the General Committee of the UN General Assembly to recommend putting the question about the situation on the country's occupied territory on the agenda. He called it "a diplomatic success".

"We've been seeking for the implementation of four UN resolutions denouncing the occupation of Azerbaijan lands by Armenia already for several years, and the United Nations seems to have heard Azerbaijan's voice at last. In my opinion, discussions about the problem in the United Nations will open a new scope for the conflict resolution. But it means on no account that the Azerbaijan authorities planned to remove the OSCE monitoring group from the Karabakh peace process by submitting this proposal. On the contrary, Azerbaijan is inclined to facilitate peace talks in such a way," Mr Mamedov said.
