To Be a Chechen: Peace and War Through the Eyes of School Children to be presented in Frankfurt
The book To Be a Chechen: Peace and War Through the Eyes of School Children issued by New Publishing House, Russia, will be presented at the largest annual book fair in the world in Frankfurt am Main on October 7. The book, published by the Memorial Society and Caucasian Knot Internet media outlet, unites works of Chechen school children devoted to the past and the present of Chechnya and based on the authors' personal experience, the history of their families, and destinies of different people against the background of the Chechen history. These works were chosen among the essays sent by senior school students for the annual all-Russian historical competition "A Man in History. Russia - 20th Century" conducted by the Memorial Society. The 2003-2004 competition was conducted in Chechnya and Ingushetia with the support of Caucasian Knot. The book holds pictures shot by Grigory Shvedov in Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan, and North Osetia. At the end of the book, Aleksey Levinson draws parallels between the children's essays and sociological studies of analytical centers.
