Supreme Court to consider Khadzhimba's complaint

Raul Khadzhimba, a candidate for the Abkhazian presidency, lodged a complaint in the Abkhazian Supreme Court on October 7 concerning the illegality of the Central Election Commission's decision of October 6, 2004 providing for repeated voting in the Gali district on October 17. As told by Sergey Smyr, chairman of the Commission, this decision was caused by numerous violations committed in the course of voting in the presidential election on October 3.

Sergey Bagapsh, another candidate, has lodged a complaint too, said Abkhazian Supreme Court Chairman Alla Avidzba. Mr Bagapsh believes the October 6 decision of the commission should be declared invalid, results of the October 3 election should be declared valid, and Sergey Bagapsh should be declared the winner in the election.

According to the Commission's data, 76,654 out of 122,564 people put on the voter lists took part in the election of the president of the Republic of Abkhazia, three constituencies of the Gali district not included. 35,092 people voted for Sergey Bagapsh, and 30,120 did for Raul Khadzhimba.
