Azerbaijan: journalist states provocations against him

Teimur Kerimov, a correspondent of the Azerbaijani Internet-TV-Kanal-13, has stated that when he was preparing a report about the problems of forced migrants, he was attacked by an unknown man; however, at the police station the man stated that it was the journalist who had beaten him up.

Teimur Kerimov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on November 24, in the afternoon, he was detained in the settlement for forced migrants in the Barda District, 300 km west of Baku, the Azerbaijani capital.

The journalist was there to prepare a video report about water supply problems in the settlement.

"When I was interviewing forced migrants, some people appeared in the settlement, probably duly instructed by local authorities, who made noise. A man named Adil was especially active; he started shouting that I'm an oppositionist, acting against the interests of Azerbaijan. Adil began insulting and pushing me away; and policemen showed up at that moment," said Teimur Kerimov.

He was taken to the Barda District Police Division. "There, Adil argued that I had allegedly hit him; and they opened a criminal case against me under the article of 'beating'," said Teimur Kerimov, treating his criminal case as falsified.
