Abkhazian economy damaged by political crisis
State security guards resumed their work in the complex of Abkhazian government buildings, and the Abkhazian prime minister returned to his private office, reported the Caucasian Knot correspondent. Since November 12, Nodar Khashba had worked in a state residence in Sukhum as armed people supporting Sergey Bagapsh blocked off the government complex.
Nodar Khashba also announced he prepared an appeal to the Russian leadership to remove all restrictions that had been introduced on the border with Russia. The prime minister hopes the restrictions on the border will be removed in the near future. As a result of the internal political crisis, the republic has sustained damage estimated at about $5-6 million, a huge sum for Abkhazia, Mr Khashba told journalists
Following the developments in Abkhazia, Russia imposed serious restrictions on the admission regime on the border with Abkhazia along the Psou River. People are allowed to cross the border only from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m. Moscow time. A ban was imposed on conveying mandarins from Abkhazia to Russia and carrying across the border any agricultural products, except for the norm of personal consumption for one individual.
