Bagapsh wins presidential election

The Abkhazian Central Election Commission (CEC) has presented preliminary election results for all 35 districts of the republic to journalists in the morning today. According to CEC Chairman Batal Tabagua, 129,298 people were put on the main and additional lists of voters, and 75,691 people, or 58.5%, took part in the voting.

68,225 people, or 90.1%, voted for Sergey Bagapsh, and 3,467 people, or 4.5%, did for Yakub Lakoba.

The new election of the head of the republic was held on January 12. There were two presidential candidates: Chernomorenergo State Company Director General Sergey Bagapsh teamed up with Raul Khadzhimba, Bagapsh's main rival in the previous election, and leader of the Abkhazian People's Party Yakub Lakoba teamed up with Stella Guniya, a member of the People's Party.
