Dagestani authorities promise truck drivers to initiate draft law to abolish "Platon" system

At the next session, MPs of the Dagestani Parliament are planning to come up with a legislative initiative to the State Duma to abolish the "Platon" system and the transport tax. This was reported by representatives of the Dagestani authorities at a meeting with truck drivers held on May 10.

On March 27, Russian truck drivers resumed mass protests. They demand to abolish the transport tax, reduce fuel excises and cancel the "Platon" system introduced to collect tolls from drivers of heavy trucks on federal roads.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 28, it became known about the creation in Dagestan of a commission involving officials of the authorities and an initiative group of protesters against the "Platon" system. The commission is to work out decisions regarding the demands voiced by the truck drivers on protest. In case of delay in solution of the above problems, the carriers threatened to hold new protest actions.

On May 10, members of the initiative group of the truck drivers took part in a three-hour meeting with officials led by Abdusamad Gamidov, the chair of the government of Dagestan.

"We were promised that at the next session, MPs of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan should come up with a legislative initiative to the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the abolition of the 'Platon' system and the transport tax. Besides, we also demand to justify the rate of the excise tax on fuel," the RIA "Derbent" quotes Magomed Kuramagomedov, a representative of the truck drivers of the Shamil District, as stating.
