Chechen girl found in Iraq identified

A girl injured in the Iraqi city of Mosul was taken from Chechnya by her parents. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a source from the law enforcement agencies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 20, residents of Chechnya disseminated through WhatsApp a photo of a girl injured in Mosul, whose parents were presumably killed. The text attached to the photo contained a request to help identify the girl.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Chechen law enforcement agencies that the nine-year-old girl had been identified.

"She was taken to Syria by her parents. The girl's father joined militants of the ISIL (the IS, formerly ISIL, was recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia by court, note of the 'Caucasian Knot'), and her mother was with her in Mosul. The girl's parents were presumably killed in the course of hostilities. A girl's grandmother lives in Grozny," the law enforcer said.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Chechen Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) that questions concerning return of Chechen children captured by the Iraqi troops in Mosul were discussed at a meeting of Chechen Mufti Salakh-Khadji Mezhiev with Haidar Mansour Hadi, Iraqi Ambassador to Russia, held on August 1.

"The Ambassador has promised to provide possible assistance in the matter of returning Chechen children to their homeland," noted the official from the Chechen SAM.
