Law enforcers explain detentions in Pankisi Gorge by Tbilisi special operation

Today, five persons have been detained in the Pankisi Gorge. One of them was wounded when he tried to throw a grenade to law enforcers, the State Security Service of Georgia reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Georgian media announced a special operation conducted in the villages of Omalo and Duisi in the Pankisi Gorge and the detention of three persons. According to them, one of the detainees is suspected of aiding and abetting Akhmed Chataev, who was killed in a special operation in Tbilisi.

"The detainees are connected with members of a militant grouping neutralized in the special operation on November 21-22," reported Nino Giorgobiani, the spokesperson for the State Security Service of Georgia.

According to Nino Giorgobiani, Temirlan Machilikashvili, one of the detainees, tried to throw a grenade during his detention, but law enforcers opened fire.

"The investigation found out that those persons helped members of the Akhmed Chataev's grouping to move from Turkey to Georgia," Nino Giorgobiani said.

In a hiding, law enforcers found machine guns and ammunition prepared to commit terror acts in Georgia and Turkey.

All detainees are citizens of Georgia. They are Zurab Gronakashvili, Ruslan Aldamov, Ramaz Margoshvili, Badur Chapanashvili, and Tamerlan Machalikashvili, the "Georgia Online" reports.
