An activist of "Muslim Unity" detained after returning to Baku
Revan Ismayilov returned to Azerbaijan on February 26. However, until today he has not been able to report that he was detained by policemen. This was stated by a member of the movement "Muslim Unity". The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has not confirmed, but also has not denied the information about the activist's detention.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 4, 2017, the court found Revan Ismayilov guilty of disobeying policemen and sentenced him to 30 days of administrative arrest. According to the activist, after his detention he was tortured. The defence associated the persecution of Revan Ismayilov with his participation in an anti-corruption rally and his support of Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity".
On February 26, Revan Ismayilov returned to Baku from Russia, where he left after his release from administrative arrest, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by an activist from the movement "Muslim Unity".
"However, [Revan Ismayilov] did not leave the airport. His fate has not been clarified until today," the activist said. He has also added that today, Revan Ismayilov called his relatives and informed them that he was being kept at the Chief Department for Combating Organized Crime.
"He could not say anything else, and he did not tell us about the reasons for his detention. We will hire an independent advocate to defend him," the activist from the "Muslim Unity" said.
