In Karabakh conflict zone, number of deaths increases during second year of truce

According to the official information, during the two-year truce announced after the "four-day war" in Nagorno-Karabakh, 81 people were killed during shelling in the conflict zone. While 38 people were killed during the first year of the truce, then during the second year, within the period from March 31, 2017 to April 1, 2018, 43 people were killed, including two civilians. Such information follows from the infographics "Karabakh after the truce: two years of war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot".

According to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for Nagorno-Karabakh, in the spring of 2017, the number of cases of shelling from the Azerbaijani side per week increased from 250-300 in April to 850 in late May. After that, the situation was levelled: the shelling stayed within 100-300 cases per week.

Meanwhile, according to the data released by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan, the number of cases of shelling from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh hardly changed during the second year of the truce and amounted to approximately 800-900 per week.

Meanwhile, the parties to the conflict accused each other of using sniper rifles, mortar launchers, grenade launchers, artillery and anti-aircraft missile systems. According to infographics, most often the reports on use of mortar launchers and artillery systems arrived in the spring and summer of 2017.
