Serzh Sargsyan's security head detained in Armenia
Major-General Vachagan Kazaryan, who was the head of the guards of Serzh Sargsyan, the third President of Armenia, was detained on suspicion of illegal enrichment and concealment of incomes. At detention, a large sum of money was confiscated from him.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Serzh Sargsyan occupied the post of Prime Minister for six days only, and on April 23, he announced his resignation at the background of the "velvet revolution". On May 8, the oppositional leader Nikol Pashinyan was elected the head of the Armenian Government (Prime Minister).
Earlier, the Investigating Committee of Armenia reported that during a search of the house of Ruzanna Beglaryan, the owner of the LLC "Selena" and the wife of Vachagan Kazaryan, a large sum of money was found – 1.4 million US dollars, over 230,000 euros and 36 million drams (over 74,000 US dollars).
Kazaryan explained the presence of the large amount of money by the need to transfer it to the owner, but refused to name him, the press centre of the National Security Service (NSS) has reported. He said that he had forgotten to indicate his bank accounts in his income declaration.
