Kadyrov's project raises payback issue of HSRs in Caucasus
The Transcaucasian high-speed railway (HSR) proposed by Ramzan Kadyrov will be in demand; however, there are no full calculations of its efficiency, experts assert. Users of social networks doubt the need for high-speed trains in Northern Caucasus.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 15, Ramzan Kadyrov asked President Vladimir Putin to finance the Transcaucasian HSR from Krasnodar to Grozny. According to the "Kommersant", its cost may amount to 1.2 trillion roubles – this is unbearable for the federal budget.
Kirill Yankov, the chairman of the Union of Passengers and a member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Transports of Russia, believes that the passenger flow between Krasnodar and Grozny can reach 7 million people a year, if the route goes via airports.
However, it is still difficult to predict the passenger flow payback period of the railway.
Instagram users, on the page kchr09, have actively supported the Kadyrov's proposal; however, there is another opinion about this project.
"It'll be possible to bring political prisoners there, and call Chechen special agents back," Kirill Martynov, a political analyst, wrote in his Facebook.
Let us remind you that Chechnya is among the top five highly-subsidized regions of Russia.
