In Armenia, social service officials suspected of fraud worth 30,000 US dollars

In Stepanavan, according to investigators, four officials registered benefits in favour of local residents without their knowledge and embezzled the money, the Armenian police reports today.

The abuses, as a result of which the state treasury missed a large amount of money, have been revealed at the Stepanavan territorial agency of social services, operating under the regional administration of Lori.

On June 28, the law enforcement bodies got the information on violations of officials. After a check, the police found out that starting from 2008, four social service officials registered benefits in favour of citizens without their knowledge and embezzled 14,640,000 drams (about 30,000 US dollars) in total, the "Sputnik-Armenia" reports with reference to the press service of the Armenian police.

A criminal case has been instituted on the fact of fraud in a particularly large amount, and the investigation is underway, the agency "News-Armenia" reports.
