The suspect was killed at detention, Azerbaijani law enforcement sources report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 3, Elmar Veliev, the Mayor of the city of Ganja, was wounded in an armed attack. In the context thereof, Yunis Safarov, a 35-year-old native of Ganja, was detained. Law enforcers treated the attempt on Veliev as a terror act.

"When rendering armed resistance, a resident of the city of Ganja was killed," the edition named "Azertadj" reports referring to its law enforcement sources.

The casualty had been on the wanted list for terrorism, a premeditated murder and an attempt on the life of a state servant; in 2016 he participated in warfare in Syria," the "Vesti.Az" has added.

Let us remind you that on July 10, about 150-200 people gathered at the building of Ganja administration. They demanded to investigate not only the attack on Veliev, but also his activities. The police suppressed the action; during the clashes two policemen perished.
