Residents of Grozny learn about fate of their disappeared relatives

Two cousins considered disappeared for a week have been found at a police station, their relatives report. The reasons for the detention of the young men who wear beards are still unknown.

"The brothers were found on August 19," said a member of a local NGO.

The family members have not yet managed to visit the detainees. The young men had no earlier problems with the law, a relative has added.

According to their relatives, the brothers disappeared in the centre of Grozny at night on August 12, when they went to visit their friend.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2014, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov announced that in the republic, there should not be "even a spirit" of concepts contradicting the Koran, the Sunnah, and the Tariqah. Among those concepts, the leader of Chechnya mentioned Wahhabism, Habashism, and Tablikh. After that, Chechnya started hunting for young people wearing long beards and shaved mustaches, like followers of the Salafi concept in Islam.
