Policeman detained in case on Gazakh resident's death
A policeman from the Gazakh District Police Department, where local resident Elmir Akhundov died, is suspected of abuse of power, while another person involved in the case is arrested on the charge of hooliganism, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives and friends of Elmir Akhundov claimed that on September 25, he had a fight with Kerim Akhmedov, a member of the "Public Police Support", after which he was detained by law enforcers and killed after torture. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan denied the allegations on the use of torture. According to the law enforcement bodies, Elmir Akhundov got fatal injuries during the conflict with Kerim Akhmedov.
Kerim Akhmedov is charged under the article on hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon or a similar object, and he is taken into custody by the court's decision, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan reports today.
Besides, investigators suspect Ilham Suleimanov, on duty policeman of the Gazakh District Police Department, of abuse of power, which provoked serious consequences, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent quotes the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan as reporting.
