Armenian resident detained after attempting suicide outside government building

Policemen have detained the man, who tried to commit suicide near the building of the Armenian Government, where an action was held today demanding the resignation of the head of the Urtsadzor community.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 17, 24 communities of nine regions of Armenia held local elections. In the village of Urtsadzor, the winner was Rafik Andreasyan, former head, who resigned in October 2018 after a series of protests.

Today, a rally began in Yerevan demanding to dismiss Rafik Andreasyan. The protesters demanded a meeting with the government in order to present "the real situation prevailing in the community," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports, citing a live broadcast of the action by the website "1in.am".

At about midday local time, a family living in the village of Geganist of the Ararat Region approached the place of the action – two women with a child and two men. One of them, Andranik Adilkhanyan, tried to commit suicide in public, but the nearby policemen stopped him, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports referring to the live broadcast on the website "1in.am".

The policemen took the man to the police station, the press service of the government told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

After the incident, Alexander Kazaryan, the head of the department for receiving citizens and considering applications, met the protesters, listened to them and promised to transfer their demand for the resignation of the head of the community to the "appropriate persons".
