Two residents of Dagestan sentenced for blood feud murder

The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan found two local residents guilty of murdering in 2012 their countryman on the motive of blood feud and sentenced them to 24 years and 14 years in a penal colony, respectively, the Prosecutor's Office reports today.

According to investigators, one of the convicts decided to kill a relative for murdering his brother in 2007. The convict suggested his acquaintance and other two men would kill his relative and offered them 1 million roubles, the investigators found out.

Till present, the custom of blood feud is partially preserved in all the republics of Northern Caucasus. In Dagestan, the custom mostly occurs in mountainous areas. The Dagestani law enforcement bodies believe the custom of blood revenge blocks the crimes there, reports the article "Blood feud: how they kill now in the Caucasus", published by the "Caucasian Knot".

The man was shot and killed from a rifle in the territory of distant pasture in the Nogai District, where he was engaged in sheep grazing. Apart from the gunshot wounds, injuries from stabs with knives were found on the victim's body.

There were two men in the prisoners' dock, including the one declared by the investigators the originator of the murder.
