Relatives urge Ingush activist Akhmed Barakhoev to stop his hunger strike

Relatives of Ingush activist Akhmed Barakhoev, who was arrested after a rally in Magas and who went on hunger strike, are seriously concerned over his health state, reports Ilez Barakhoev, a son of the activist. The hunger strike has become for Akhmed Barakhoev a way to fight for the detainees' rights, believes Ruslan Mutsolgov, the head of the local branch of the "Yabloko" Party.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 3, the leaders of the Ingush protest Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, and Barakh Chemurziev were arrested for ten days.

Akhmed Barakhoev drinks only water and does not accept food, his son reported. Meanwhile, he doubted that his father would listen to the relatives' requests and stop his hunger strike.

"After the first rallies, he got heart problems, and he had to go to the hospital," added Ilez Barakhoev.

"Being under arrest, he sees in his hunger strike the only way to fight against the authorities' actions," explained Ruslan Mutsolgov.
