Rights defenders see no officials' work on refugees' problem in Ingushetia

Nothing is known about results of officials' efforts to address the problems of forced migrants living in barracks in Nazran, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has stated. Meanwhile, officials should work out their proposals by May 30.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April, 2019, 15 families of forced migrants from the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia received a demand from the city Mayoralty to move out of their barracks. They complained that they had nowhere to go; and the head of Ingushetia set up a commission to solve the refugees' housing problems.

In the fall of 1992, an Ossetian-Ingush armed conflict broke out in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia. According to prosecutors, 583 people were killed, 939 were injured, and other 261 people went missing. From 30 to 60 thousand Ingushes were forced to leave their homes.

People are still living in barracks, the HRC "Memorial" reports, noting that demolition of barracks was stopped after their protests.
