South Ossetia reached final at ConIFA Championship
At the European Football Championship of the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (ConIFA), which is underway in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), finalists have been defined: the teams of South Ossetia and Western Armenia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the ConIFA European Football Championship began on June 1 in Stepanakert, the NKR capital. Locals expect that a tournament of this scale will bring the NKR closer to recognition by the international community.
On June 6, within the framework of the ConIFA Championship, semi-final matches took place. The national team of Abkhazia, the winner of the group phase, lost to Western Armenia's team at the stadium in Stepanakert with a score of 4:1, and failed to reach the final.
In the second semi-final match, held in the city of Askeran, South Ossetia beat Chameria with a score of 6:5 in a penalty shootout.
The final meeting will be held on June 9.
"The championship is organized at a high level, and the fans in the NKR see spectacular football," Per-Anders Blin, the ConIFA President, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
