USA voted for UN resolution on Chechnya

The USA voted for the draft resolution of the UN Commission on Human Rights, urging Russia to stop and prevent breaches of human rights and international humanitarian law in Chechnya.

According to data given by the press-service of the US State Department, a representative of the US delegation Michael Sautvik stated on the occasion of voting at the Session of the Commission on Human Rights on Wednesday: ?The breaches are very serious, and they must be eliminated by the Russian government if we really want to secure a political solution of this lingering and painful conflict. The people of Chechnya undergo unbearable suffering because of the war?.

By his words, the United States would like to reinforce the part of the resolution that ?strongly condemn? acts of terrorism perpetrated by Chechen groups, including seizure of hostages in the Theatre Center in Dubrovka and truck explosion near the main governmental building in Grozny last year. As Sautvik noted, the Government of the USA entered these organizations of Chechen soldiers in the list of terrorist organizations.
