Wife of Azerbaijani rights defender Gyulyalyev reports his better health condition

Over the past 24 hours, the health status of the human rights defender Ogtai Gyulyalyev has shown positive dynamics, which is considered encouraging by doctors.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 6, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the coordinator of the Committee against Repressions and Torture, who received traumas in a road accident, was transported to an Istanbul clinic. His treatment is paid by the Geidar Aliev Fund; on December 10, the Fund extended the financing of treatment.

On October 29, after a press conference, at which Gyulyalyev outlined a plan for a future campaign against torture, was hit by a car. Oppositionists and human rights defenders have suggested that he was attacked deliberately and demanded an international investigation into the accident.

"After Ogtai was transported to Turkey, he was disconnected from the artificial respiration apparatus. He breathed on his own," said Firuza Gyulyalyeva, his wife.

Mekhman Aliev, a member of the Committee against Repressions and Torture, who is also the director of the "Turan" News Agency, called the information about the positive dynamics in the rights defender's health condition a "good news."

"One of international human rights structures has already allocated 6000 euros to support Ogtai's family, because the family is now without the breadwinner ... The family will need help for many months to come," Mr Aliev has stated.

According to his story, funds are also being raised in Azerbaijan, but so far little has been raised.
