Gasanguseinovs' father upholds pickets in support of journalist Gadjiev

Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the shepherd brothers killed in Dagestan, has taken part in a series of pickets in support of the arrested journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the "Chernovik" weekly, hold regular pickets in his support.

Since this June, Abdulmumin Gadjiev is under arrest under the case of financing terrorism. On December 9, he complained to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about his unjustified arrest.

The picketers, who went out on December 16 in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, stood one by one in turn from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Gamzatov and Dakhadaev Streets. These streets are among the main transport arteries of Makhachkala, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

More than ten people came to the venue; seven of them held solo pickets; and the rest came to support them, Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the murdered shepherds, and his representative Djambulat Gasanov also took part in the series of pickets. They announced their readiness to continue taking part in these actions in future.

"The accusations put forward against Abdulmumin Gadjiev are an attempt to put pressure on the entire independent press. We understand that in this way they are trying to strangle the media," Djambulat Gasanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
