Journalists call on Dagestani authorities to be transparent in determining borders with Chechnya

The authorities of Dagestan should break the silence on the issue of determining the borders with Chechnya in order to prevent conflicts over disputed territories, journalists believe. Backstage meetings between representatives of Chechnya and Dagestan on the issue are possible, but in general, the process of demarcation of borders should be made transparent, political analysts note.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 20, Magomed Daudov, the speaker of the Chechen parliament, announced that the clarification of the republic's borders with neighbouring regions had been completed. Chechnya unilaterally included into the register the disputed sections of the border with Dagestan, since the authorities of Dagestan did not report the completion of the activities to determine the borders with Chechnya, Dagestani journalists reporters suggest.

The authorities of Dagestan should report in detail what has been done in that direction, believes Magomed Magomedov, a member of the Dagestani public commission for determining and clarifying the borders between Dagestan and Chechnya, the deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Draft" (Chernovik).

Let us remind you that the opening of checkpoints in the Shelkovskoy District of Chechnya on the border with Dagestan aroused concern among residents of Chechnya that the checkpoints would complicate movement between the republics.
