Court extends arrest of Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev

In Makhachkala, the court granted the motion filed by investigators and extended the pre-trial restriction measure to Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft), until May 13.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the religion department of the Dagestani website "Chernovik", was arrested in the case on financing terrorism. The journalist pleads not guilty. On January 27, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan dismissed the appeal against the journalist's arrest and left him in custody until March 13.

Apart from Abdulmumin Gadjiev, in the case on financing of terrorism, Kemal Tambiev and Abubakar Rizvanov were arrested. The latter is also to be kept in custody during two months.

In Makhachkala, activists hold pickets every week with the demand to stop the prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. The recent such protest action took place on March 9.
