Oppositionists note new wave of repressions against critics of Azerbaijani authorities

The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan has released the second statement within the past week and accused the country's authorities of "launching a new wave of repression against the opposition."

"The Azerbaijani government continues to intensify the repressive steps against the opposition which were initiated in March," declared the NCDF in its statement received by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on April 13.

The NCDF points to the new arrests of oppositionists: on April 8, Faig Amirli and Ruslan Amirov, the assistant and the bodyguard, respectively, of the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), were arrested.

The NCDF expressed its regret that "even during the crisis time, the government of Azerbaijan does not refuse its repressive policy."

The National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan demanded from the authorities "to immediately cease the anti-people and anti-human actions, release the persons arrested on false charges, and stop prosecuting oppositionists and activists."

The NCDF also called on the people of Azerbaijan and the global community to strongly condemn the "anti-people and anti-human act of the government and organize a protest campaign to end the repressions."
