US Department of State announces new sanctions against Ramzan Kadyrov

Today, the US Department of State has announced imposing sanctions against Ramzan Kadyrov and his family members in connection with human rights violations in Chechnya.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20, 2017, the US Department of the Treasury included Ramzan Kadyrov on the sanctions list and called him responsible for extrajudicial executions, torture, and other violations of human rights in Chechnya.

Today, the US Department of State has announced new sanctions imposed against Ramzan Kadyrov. According to a press statement posted on the website of the US Department of State, the sanctions are connected with the fact that the leader of Chechnya was involved in "gross violations of human rights in the republic."

"The Department has extensive credible information that Kadyrov is responsible for numerous gross violations of human rights dating back more than a decade, including torture and extrajudicial killings," the US Department of State announced.

The sanctions were also applied to the spouse of Ramzan Kadyrov and his two daughters. "We will encourage likeminded countries to take similar measures," the US State Department noted in its press statement.
