Azerbaijani SSS reports extradition of alleged militant from Russia

Russia has handed Falig Valiev over to Azerbaijan; Valiev had been put on the international wanted list on charges of links with militants, the country's State Security Service (SSS) has reported.

According to the SSS, Falig Valiev, an Azerbaijani citizen, was trained "for terrorist purposes" outside the country, and there he joined an illegal armed formation (IAF).

Investigators believe that while abroad, Valiev studied methods of committing terror acts "in order to violate public safety and create panic among the population, and with the aim to affect state bodies' decision-making"; and was also attracted by foreign special services to reconnaissance and sabotage exercises, says the today's statement posted on the SSS' website, translated by the "Caucasian Knot".

The detainee is accused of organizing a criminal community, teaching terrorism and participating in an IAF. Falig Valiev "was detained by Russian authorities and handed over to the Azerbaijani side on August 27 within the framework of the procedure of mutual legal help," says the statement.
