Dagestani resident detained on suspicion of financing IS*

Six persons were detained in five regions of Russia, including a resident of Dagestan, who, according to investigators, organized raising and transferring money for militants from a terrorist organization in Syria, the law enforcement bodies reported.

According to the FSB, a "conspiratorial unit" of supporters of the "Islamic State"* was active in Moscow, the Moscow Region, Dagestan, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.

Law enforcers believe that the six detainees were involved in raising money for the IS*, the FSB reports on its official website today.

In total, at least 500,000 roubles were raised, and the investigators are engaged in finding the "role and specific actions" committed by the suspects, the FSB reports.

According to the law enforcers, "means of communication and payment instruments, testifying to the illegal activities, were seized from the detainees."

* Islamic State (IS, former ISIL) is a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court
