Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev's arrest extended

The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has left Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, as well as Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev, accused for financing terrorism, in custody for another three months. The defence treats the arrest extension as unjustified.

According to the prosecution, Gadjiev transferred money to the funds of the preacher Israil Akhmednabiev (Abu Umar Sasitlinsky), whom investigators treat as the organizer of financing terrorists.

"There were no grounds for my detention, beating me in front of my children, breaking the door, searching and seizing the property of my relatives," Kemal Tambiev has stated in court.

Earlier, Tambiev's advocate said that his client had repeatedly complained about illegal methods of interrogation by law enforcers.

The defence of Gadjiev, Tambiev and Rizvanov treats the investigator's arguments in favour of arrest extension as absurd and unmotivated.

Gadjiev, Rizvanov and Tambiev have been in custody for a year and three months. They may stay in custody for a year and a half in the most, Shamil Magomedov, an advocate, has stated.

Magomed Magomedov, deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, has noted that interest in Gadjiev's case persists. According to his story, a large number of people support actions, including virtual ones, in his defence.
