Armenian political analysts: Pashinyan unlikely to resign

The opposition does not have enough votes to announce the impeachment of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and the withdrawal of several MPs from the ruling faction does not matter much, political analysts note.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after Nikol Pashinyan had signed the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, the opposition raised the issue of his resignation. However, the consideration of the above initiative in the parliament failed due to the lack of a quorum: MPs from the ruling "My Step" faction did not come to the meeting.

Signatures of one third of the MPs are required to start the impeachment procedure, but as long as the martial law is in effect, no issue of impeachment can be discussed, notes Ani Samsonyan, a member of the "Enlightened Armenia" faction.

Political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan admits that the opposition may succeed in seeking the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan. Meanwhile, the expert also notes that the Armenian Prime Minister has the resources to put pressure on the MPs of the ruling faction.

There are signs of a split in the ruling faction, but it is not yet a large-scale one, political strategist Armen Badalyan suggests. According to him, the withdrawal of four persons from the faction of 88 MPs "does not solve anything." The political strategist also believes it is possible that Nikol Pashinyan puts pressure on his associates.
