Yerevan protesters demand to clarify status of Berdzor and two villages

The authorities should give a clear explanation to residents of the city of Berdzor and the Karabakh villages of Agavno and Sus about the status of these dwelling settlements located near the positions of Azerbaijani troops, residents of Berdzor and Agavno have stated at their protest in Yerevan on December 6.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 1, the Azerbaijani Army took control of the Lachin (the Armenian name is Kashatag) District, with the exception of the five-kilometre-wide corridor that ensures communication of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. Some residents of the Russian-controlled city of Berdzor (Azerbaijani name is Lachin), and the villages of Agavno (Azerbaijani name is Zabukh) and Sus decided to stay there. However, local residents do not feel safe as the authorities had failed to clarify their living conditions in these settlements.

Today, residents of Berdzor and Agavno went out to a protest action in central Yerevan, near the "Yeritasardakan" metro station. They demand from the authorities to explain to them the status of their settlements, the "Sputnik Armenia" reports.

"We don't understand our status. They say Berdzor is Armenian; then, that it is not. Sometimes they say come back, then, don't. Let them just explain to us what is happening, so that we understand what to do," the "Sputnik Armenia" quotes one of the protesters, a resident of Berdzor, as stating.

According to the protesters, although Russian peacemakers guarantee safe passage along the Lachin Corridor, local residents have no guarantees of safe life, the edition writes.
