Defence reports Belkharoev's complaints about torture

Alikhan Belkharoev, a resident of Ingushetia, arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Ibragim Eldjarkiev, the head of the Ingush Centre to Counter Extremism (CCE, also known as "E" Centre), said that law enforcers had tortured him to obtain confessions.

On January 13, Belkharoev's advocates were again not admitted to him, but then one of them was still allowed to visit him. According to one of the advocates, Nikolai Dyakov, law enforcers had forced his client to confess; in doing so, they threatened to torture both his family members and his advocates.

"Should he refuses to confess to the crime, they promised to hang on him both the attempted murder and the murder of Eldjarkiev," Mr Dyakov has stated, adding that Belkharoev told him that he had been tortured with an electric current and shock. Belkharoev had been suffering from a nervous breakdown for eight years and is taking medications.
