In Rustavi, activists hold action in support of Nika Meliya
At night on March 27, several dozen supporters of Nika Meliya held a disobedience action in Rustavi demanding freedom for him and other political prisoners.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 23, law enforcers conducted a special operation in Tbilisi to detain Nika Meliya, the leader of the oppositional "United National Movement" (UNM) Party. On the same day, Meliya's supporters held a large-scale action near the government administration and announced that they would continue protesting.
On February 16, the Georgian Parliament stripped Nika Meliya's parliamentary immunity; he is accused of organizing group violence and participating therein. He faces up to nine years in prison.
Let us remind you that the case against Meliya was initiated in connection with the storming of the parliament on June 21, 2019, when hundreds of people were injured and detained during the dispersal of protesters.
