Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh commemorate victims of Armenian Genocide

The participants in commemorative events in Stepanakert have demanded that the world community to recognize the Armenian Genocide and the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Flowers and wreaths were laid at the monument in memory of those who perished in the Ottoman Empire in 1915, and at the war memorial.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 23, in Yerevan, a torchlight march was held dedicated to the Remembrance Day of victims of the Armenian Genocide. Its participants called for seeking compensations from Turkey.

As a sign of protest, Stepanakert marchers burned down the flags of Turkey and Azerbaijan. They chanted demands to the world community to give a legal assessment of the Armenian Genocide, to ensure the return of all Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) from Azerbaijan, and to recognize the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

The international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is directly related to compensation for the damage caused and recognition of the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, Arshak Mesropyan, the head of the youth branch of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" Party, has stated.

The fall war of 2020 was also genocide, said Metaxe Akopyan, a Nagorno-Karabakh's MP.

By denying the genocide, Turkey is acting against the "rights of the Armenian people," the office of the Nagorno-Karabakh's Ombudsperson has stated.

Araik Arutyunyan, the head of Nagorno-Karabakh, has pointed out that "the recognition of the Armenian Genocide people is a means of preventing future crimes against humanity."
