Cossack ataman Khanin has died in Stavropol Territory

Today in the hospital of the city of Novo-Aleksandrovsk of the Stavropol Territory, Andrei Khanin, Ataman of the Nizhnekubanskiy Branch of the Stavropol Cossack Society of the Tersk Cossack Army, an attempt on whom was committed earlier this week, has died. The "Interfax" has reported that the funeral of the Ataman will take place on about February 19.

Making comments on the messages that have appeared in mass media on actions planned in Stavropol with nationalist colouring in connection with the attempt on the Cossack Ataman, Alexander Serkov, Ataman of the Stavropol Cossack Society of the Tersk Cossack Army has noted that Cossacks are against such actions.

He has informed that should any actions of this sort be organized in Stavropol and other cities of the Territory, the Tersk Cossack Army will apply to the Office of Public Prosecutor.

Meanwhile, on Saturday in the afternoon, a group of young people belonging to various associations of nationalist character, tried to organize a protest action at the building of Stavropol administration. The Leninskiy District Police Unit ("ROVD") of the city reported that about 20 persons were detained and delivered to the interior station.

The law enforcement bodies had possessed information on the intention of representatives of nationalist organizations to hold a broad-scale protest action in the city centre in connection with an attempt on Cossack ataman Khanin, the NEWSru.com reports.
