Bobokvati residents announce endless protest action

In the village of Bobokvati, protesters set up a tent and organized round-the-clock on duty post in the land plot, which authorities plan to sell to investors through an auction. These lands were illegally confiscated from local residents, activists assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 19, Bobokvati villagers blocked the Batumi-Tbilisi railway with a demand to stop the auction for the sale of coastal lands. Local residents told the "Caucasian Knot" that they had owned the lands since the time of the Ottoman Empire, but Georgian authorities would prevent in every possible way to have the lands registered.

"At the sitting of the Supreme Council of Adjara, we failed to receive answers to the questions asked by Bobokvati villagers. It was then that we promised that we would hold protest actions, since no agreement was reached with the authorities," one of the protesters told on air of the "Adjara TV".

He said that the auction was scheduled for June 25; therefore, it was decided to set up a tent in this land plot and show an investor interested in buying it that the land belongs to the people. "We will provide the investor with our documents on the land," said the activist.
