Abkhaz Parliament refuses to dismiss MIA head

Abkhaz MPs have held an emergency session in connection with the shooting in Sukhumi. The draft resolution on the removal of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) from office failed to collect the required number of votes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 30, Garry Kokaya, an Abkhaz MP, fired five pistol shots into the air on the Sukhumi embankment. He refused to surrender the pistol to policemen and fled. Dissatisfied with this fact, fellow villagers of the MP held a gathering.

On October 1, the Abkhaz Parliament held an emergency sitting on the incident in Sukhumi – it lasted three hours. The text of a draft resolution was prepared, according to which the Prosecutor General, together with the Chairman of the State Security Service (SSS), were to conduct the due investigative actions by October 7. It was offered to the Abkhaz President to remove Dmitry Dbar, the MIA head, and his two deputies from their posts for the period of investigative actions. However, the resolution was not adopted: 17 MP supported it, two voted against, and two more abstained, the "Apsny-Press" has reported.
