Derbent: "Promised Caucasus" Festival arouses tourists' interest
The "Promised Caucasus" Festival ended in Derbent with a jazz concert and ethnic dances. Its rich programme has helped to get to know better the culture of mountain Jews; tourists from many Russian cities told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the topic of the "Promised Caucasus" Festival that opened on October 10 in the city of Derbent under the initiative of the Russian Jewish Congress was the culture of mountain Jews in the context of Caucasian culture as a whole.
Irina Borisovna, who came to Derbent from Khabarovsk three days ago, said that she had accidentally learned about the festival while walking in the park, when she heard people singing. "I came up, looked, and found out about the festival. Yesterday [on October 14], the artists of the Tabasaran Theatre performed, I came to my senses [from delight] for half a night," the tourist told the "Caucasian Knot".
According to Irina Podlas, another tourist, the festival gave chances to get acquainted with the culture of Caucasian nations. "It's just amazing. They are wonderful, bright and talented musicians. I really liked the performance at the lighthouse 'Trombone over the City'. It was incredibly spectacular; and concerts in the Armenian Church, which has amazing acoustics," she has stressed.
The organizers have promised to hold the festival next year; however, to make it "larger in scale and more spectacular," Ms Podlas said, adding "thus, we'll now plan our next vacation in order to get thereon."
