Lekso Rapava goes on hunger strike
Lekso Rapava, a former police boss in the town of Khobi, has announced a hunger strike in protest against his detention, said Tengiz Gunava, an office employee of the Georgian Ombudsperson. Rapava's advocate and his family treat his detention as revenge of the "Georgian Dream" Party for his cooperation with the opposition.
According to Tengiz Gunava, Rapava has been hunger-striking not for the first day, the TV Formula reports.
"I ask the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to take respective actions and release Lekso Rapava, who was illegally detained only because he is a patriot of our country. He had no weapon at home; they planted it on him," Mr Gunava has stated, asserting that during the search in Rapava's house, law enforcers failed to invite attesting witnesses; and there was no advocate either there.
Both Rapava's advocate and his relatives claim that the former law enforcer helped the opposition to uncover illegal actions during the elections, and he has paid his price for it.
